Board Members – Gateway Family Services

  • Not for profit (NFP) organisation adopting a strengths-based approach to family and community
  • Applications particularly welcome from experienced professionals with a governance / not for profit Board background
  • Remuneration: Volunteer opportunity - expenses paid, including on-going professional development
 About Gateway Family Services (GFS)

GFS is an incorporated association committed to building a stronger community through helping to build stronger families. We are a not-for-profit organisation funded by government and philanthropic grants, donations and bequests, and fundraising.

We work closely with the community across a range of programs including Essentials (assisting people who need help with the essentials of day to day living), Enrich (offering free family support and counselling), Evolve (including parent support and education, supported playgroups and community hubs). We support families living in the Blue Mountains and Penrith local government areas, with a primary focus on families with dependent children 0 - 18 years.

 About the Opportunity

GFS is seeking to appoint Non-Executive Directors to their established governing Board. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join a passionate team on a voluntary basis and help develop and shape an exciting future for community-based service delivery in the Penrith, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury regions.

Essential skills include the ability to think and influence strategically and a capacity to work collaboratively with other Board members and with the CEO and his team. Importantly, the successful candidates will demonstrate a clear understanding of and passion for the work that GFS does for children, families, and the broader community. A commitment to the strategic vision and values of GFS, as well as knowledge of not-for-profit and the community services sectors is required. An Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) qualification would be highly regarded.

Appointments will be made based upon the need to ensure that there is an appropriate mix of skills, experience, and diversity on the Board. While the Board currently boasts a diverse range of experience, we are ideally seeking skills, abilities, and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Finance management
  • Fundraising and volunteer services
  • Previous experience serving as a Treasurer or Secretary on a NFP Board
  • Community sector

As an equal opportunity employer, we value diversity and are committed to fostering an environment that is respectful, welcoming and inclusive where people are supported to draw strengths from their identity, culture and community. We encourage applications from First Nations peoples, people living with a disability, LGBTIQ+ people, people who have come to Australia as migrants or refugees and veterans.

Those appointed would need to be able to commit the necessary time to satisfactorily meet their responsibilities (estimated time commitment is Board meeting attendance to be held in Blaxland in person approximately once every 8 weeks, as well as the occasional meetings in between / other board and committee work).
